VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA — 14 October 2026 — goldenSoftwareENGINEERS®, the technology company behind snapWONDERS, today released two changes to how its forensic reports handle AI-generated images: a new pixel analysis that can spot AI images even after their labels have been removed, and an AI-generation card that no longer calls an image "likely authentic" unless something proves it.
Spotting AI images without a label
Many AI images carry a label that says where they came from, in their Content Credentials or in the file's own metadata. Those labels are easy to lose. When we posted an AI image and downloaded the copies that social networks served back, every copy had lost its label (see the example).
The new pixel analysis looks at the image itself, so it does not depend on a label surviving. Before release it was tested on images from a recent image generator it had never been shown. It identified about three in four of those images while wrongly flagging fewer than one in a hundred genuine camera photos.
It is most reliable on original files. Images that have been shrunk and recompressed, as social networks do, are harder: the report says so instead of guessing, and file types the analysis has not yet been calibrated for are marked that way.
An AI card that does not overstate
The AI-generation card used to show "Likely Authentic" for most images, including many that were AI-generated. It now works as a ladder:
- A — Verified Camera Capture only when signed Content Credentials from a trusted issuer show a camera capture.
- C — No AI-Generation Evidence Found when nothing points either way. This is not a finding that the image is real.
- D when there is evidence of AI: a declaration in the file, a known image-generator watermark, or other AI signs. A watermark is reported as "Processed by an AI Image Generator", because AI tools can also edit real photos.
Existing reports show the new card when they are next opened.

The changes apply to every analysis on snapwonders.com and to the snapWONDERS API. Analysis is free and requires no account. How to read your report explains each grade.
